From Doubt to Empowerment: My Journey with the NMGZ Community

As a new member of the NMGZ community and a first-generation college student, stepping into this trip felt like entering a realm of possibilities previously out of reach. Walking into rooms and buildings filled with senior executives from companies like Microsoft, Starbucks, and WE Communications, I couldn't help but feel a sense of awe. As the days unfolded, that awe transformed into something much more powerful, a realization that I belonged here.

Being in the presence of these industry leaders was an eye-opening experience. As I engaged in conversations and absorbed the wisdom shared by those who have built their careers at some of the world's most recognizable brands, I felt a significant shift within me. The trip shattered any lingering doubts or limiting beliefs that I couldn't occupy these spaces. Instead, it filled me with the confidence that I, too, can one day work at a high-scale, well-known brand, making an impact in ways I had only dreamed of before. At each place we visited, I discovered that every person has their own motivation and their own reasons for waking up every day and going to work. Each person has their "why," their own purpose for what they do. It's crucial because my "why" extends beyond myself. It's about empowering identities, especially for underrepresented and misrepresented communities, and making a positive impact on society, no matter the scale. It was affirming to see that many industry leaders also aspire to make a positive mark on the world.

One of the most profound lessons I took away from this experience is the importance of human connection. In a world that often emphasizes competition and individual achievement, I learned that what truly matters is reaching out, making connections, and engaging with people, even those whose values or interests may seem different from your own. These interactions have the potential to open doors you never imagined and take you to places beyond your wildest dreams. But possibly the most significant takeaway was the realization that believing in yourself is the key to success. To be a trailblazer, to turn your dreams into reality, you must be your own best advocate. No one knows your potential better than you do, and sometimes that means taking risks, making sacrifices, and even choosing paths that others might not understand. It's about trusting your vision, even when the road ahead is unclear.
